Here's an easy way to get a free iPod Touch. Start with $100 deposit and set up direct deposit of your paycheck. Be patient because your iPod won't be delivered until December 15, but that is a good thing. Why?

Apple has consistently updated the iPod line at the end of every summer. That's why during the summer they offer free iPod Touches with Mac purchases for educational buyers – they want to clear out the old stuff before the new one arrives. So come December when the Bank of the West starts shipping the iPod Touches, chances are you'll get the latest 4th generation model, which is highly rumored to include a camera and Facetime like the latest iPhone 4. Even in the fine print it states, "The iPod touch® shipped may differ from the iPod touch® shown."

Sign up deadline is September 3, but I wouldn't wait that long in case they decide to pull the promotion early. Now I'll have to get my wife to close her Citibank account, which by the way, we opened five years ago just to get a free iPod Mini. Prior to that, I opened and closed a Citibank account to get the Sony DVD player we currently use. Don't you just love it when banks compete?
